A few minutes ago, I posted this problem under the 0 Gauge and 027 Gauge Forum.

The engine is a LionChief + NJ Central 4-6-2 Pacific # 832. It may also be identified as Item 6-84680.

It derailed on an 022 switch (ordinary derailment, did not topple over or fall off table), and after I put the wheels back on the rails and started it up, I got no chuffing sounds.

Any suggestions as to how I can get the engine chuffing again?

Arnold

Just curious as I have a few LC+ engines, did the derailment cause any transformer breakers to blow?  Just want to know how quick the board can be damaged before something would get tripped.

thanks

Tony

I have an excellent modern transformer, an MTH Z 4000. Although I did not notice how quickly the breaker kicked in re this derailment, it usually does almost instantaneously when there's a derailment.

I believe the cause of the problem is that the thin red wire became disconnected when the derailment happened, as mentioned above.

I got a LC+ Rio Grande Mikado yesterday, one trip around the track and sound quit, no derailment nothing except four curves.  None of the trouble shooting suggestions from Lionel restored sound.  I am sending it back.  I think Lionel has a quality control problem with these Chinese locomotives.  I am getting another hope I'm lucky this time.

"Thin red wire"? I see no mention of that in your first post...
