Recently, I have been experiencing problems with my MTH engines and it seems it is a TIU problem.  I started looking for a new one and have found there are none available.  In a discussion with a larger MTH dealer, he indicated that they are expecting delivery of WIFI modules in the next several months but no TIU's.  So I guess if I refuse to go the WIFI route, I am out of luck and might as well sell my MTH engines.  I purchased a second hand held remote never considering I should have gotten a new TIU last year when they were available.

I guess you might say a I am very frustrated!

@DGJONES - I assume you're referring to the MTH 50-1039 - ProtoSound DCS WiFi Digital Command System 2?  Yes, no?  You'll notice it has an "enet" input.  I assume you have working remotes.  Unless MTH is blowing smoke (which very well maybe the case), you can use a tether (aka. phone cord) to connect your remote to this WIFI system.  I am also waiting on one of these and I have no current intention of hooking it up to WiFi.

When this was discussed previously, it was made clear that you can't use your remote wirelessly, which is obviously the only way way most folks would want to use it.  I would be very surprised if they kept the ability to connect it via the tether as well.  I'm guessing the "enet" input is likely an Ethernet connector and not for the remote tether.

Current and past DCS Remote Handheld units (50-1002 and 50-1038) cannot control the WTIU because there is no 900mhz radio transimtter/receiver in the WTIU

@gunrunnerjohn - I was expecting the comment about not wanting to have the remote tethered much sooner.  I know several major dealers have reach out to MTH regarding the enet connector and have heard nothing in response.  Makes me suspicious that the MTH 50-1039 may still be vapor ware.  If the photo can be believed, the reason I suspect it's a tether connection is given how slim the connector is and, if it is to be an external ethernet connection, it would be on the side closest to the antenna.  Obviously, I have other reasons for wanting it to be a "tether" connection. Looks like there is a gazillion RS-232 wireless transceivers.

Well, obviously the modulation and frequency would have to be compatible with the existing remote, so I can imagine that would whittle the list down a bunch!

I wonder if the existing TIU transceiver board could be "grafted" onto the serial data?

I was thinking of just sticking one of the RS-232 transceiver's in the bottom of the remote and the other in the TIU and calling it a day.  Mark D. actually has a set-up that can communicate with the remote via OOK.  It's over my head (or over my patience level).  Clarify your "grafted" comment. A

IMO, "sticking" a RS232 transceiver on the remote is a non-starter for most people, but maybe that's just me.

I was thinking, since there are a lot of dead TIU's around, (I have several), and most have good transceiver boards, maybe those transceiver boards could be grafted onto the serial data if it's available on the new TIU.  That would certainly have the right protocol and frequency for the remote, and you wouldn't have the issue of adding a transceiver to the remote and also figuring out how to power it.  It would also solve any issues of multiple connections to the TIU, presumably the transceiver board is already handling that.
