Non- Powered Atlas o scale C-628

If it has working lights there will be center-rail pickups on the trucks, and probably some on/off switches. Any remote couplers will have thick shafts (for the solenoids) and 2 wires going to each coupler, of course. You can probably see some wires through the windows if class lights are present.

A TMCC board in the dummy, or a tether to a powered, TMCC loco, would be required to have remote couplers - or remote anything.

Atlas's website may have old catalogues as pdf's or the like.

No. All Atlas O non powered units, while having 3rd rail pick ups and electro couplers, nothing is connected. Unlike Lionel and MTH, at least you have the important pieces to light/smoke/remote options to ad on yourself.

For me I went to the trouble of ordering the spst switches and screws from Atlas O , a distribution board on EB@y, and led circuits from model RR software and used the mrc Ac sounder for sound in my non powered units.

I have an Atlas O 1374-1 Union Pacific Non powered C-630 I picked up in February. Had the exact same question and found the answer here. As @prrhorseshoecurve points out, they have the pick ups and in mine there’s wire going from each coupler, through the interior, connected via molex connectors/plugs at the end of each wire aka the middle of the train.

I wanted to do some kind of upgrades- at least add lights. However, when trying to remove the frame I think THREE, at least two, of the body screws became stripped/stuck. Considering the sensitivity of the loco’s details I just put the other screws back and left it as is.

History:  Non-powered models became a sales problem, and were discontinued.  Features like lights, couplers, and sound required, close to, a full TMCC board.  Replace-ing the missing motors, and a few wiring changes to a powered unit.   IMO.
