Thanks for the video - I've always liked these and want to pick one up but want to be sure there are no "surprises" like I got with the Mogul.
Keep us up to date on it's operation. If all goes well, I'm going to pick one up at a "Black Friday" sale.
NICE - ENJOY! :-)
Thanks John. I will see Charlie in the morning to pick up my locomotive. That should be a good one.

Now that’s cool 😎
Marty, I don't think those pans are going to reach your wonderful overhead system. Don

Enjoy it.....it looks and sounds GREAT!

Recieved mine today from Charles Ro via UPS. Except for a broken hand rail it initially looked great. A quick test run revealed what looks like your typical traction tire wobble. I also noticed that the body shell sits slightly but noticeably lower on the chassis at the rear end when compared to the front end. Just like my new Legacy Mogul I love it except for these hopefully minor issues which I hope can be straightened out.
Wonder if the S2 Tinplate Set is Shipping now, that’s what I ordered for Christmas. Hopefully it will come in problem free. Thanks for starting this thread, that’s a beautiful engine Captain John, and the layouts nice....One thing for sure, Legacy makes a big difference...The Bell, the crew Talk is much improved over the older one, from 2003? Very Unique..
Very nice Captain John. Thanks for the video.
Anyone else get their Legacy S2 this weekend? Will plan to order one from a "cyber Monday" sale tomorrow, just want to make sure there are no issues with these that are showing up.
These look really REALLY nice. Love seeing that ringing bell feature after it being gone for so long.
Great looking little engine, always a fan of those!
Surprised this is the one Lionel chose to reintroduce the swinging bell!
Something affordable, so that's good for me!
Awesome John!
"The S-Motors were not switchers."
At first. Indeed, they were interesting partly because they went from being mainline, high-speed power to switchers at the end of their long lives.
I just wish that Lionel would offer the S-3 - the last of this style motor and the only one actually designed as a 2-D-2 rather than a 1-D-1, then converted to 2-D-2's for more high-speed stability (this was before they were switchers!). It would take new chassis tooling (at least in part), as the S-3 was a bit longer than the S-1/S-2 in the frame; the S-2 body tooling could probably be used. I'll buy one if they do it decently well.
It has always perplexed me that the very precise NYC would have 2 types of locos on the roster, at the same time, which were as different as locomotives could be, but were both "S" in their class designation:
The S-1/S-2/S-3 electric motors.
The S-1a/S-1b/S-2a 4-8-4 Niagaras.
Not that you'd confuse the 2 types in person.
I'm waiting for the call on mine as yet. Probably get the call tomorrow or Wednesday and head over Saturday to get it.
Nice looking (and sounding) engine there Captain.

I got mine today, it has no bell! It's no where in the box either.
Also, another ding at Lionel not including the orange model anymore. When I program it as a electric Legacy engine I do not get the pantograph button to play the air sound like the manual says on page 14. And this thing is slow, not a bad thing for a switcher, but there is no electric switcher option like there is for steam and diesel, so if I try to do a MU with another Legacy locomotive, how will the system know to set it to road engine speeds?
EDIT: I found the bell. After I ran it to make sure everything else worked right, I was trying to put the foam back in the trucks to put it back in the box and one just wouldn't go in. The bell was stuck to the top of the lead truck. After I fished it out it snapped right back into place the and bell looks awesome.
Ordered mine from Trainworld this afternoon. Was told it's not in stock despite what the website has listed. Either way I hope to get it within the next few days. Sounds like they can't be far out if TW hasn't gotten their shipment yet.
