O-scale club in Southeast PA?

There are almost no clubs in this area except for N and HO clubs. There are a couple of modular clubs. I belong to a modular club, the liberty hi-railers with members in the tri-county area but we have not set up in almost 2 years, just not enough venues it seems. You would think being in the area with the most TCA members and being in the mid-Atlantic region there would be more available but not at this time.

I think that there is plenty of interest, there is just no spare time for most people.
I always wonted to belong to a three rail club but there is no way that I could attend. Also considering that I work the weekends shows are almost out of the question.
The time I do get off has to be shared with the family. Sad to say it's out of the question.

But I do wish you all the good luck in the world getting a club going. It's always nice to have another layout to visit.

I'd love to be able to join a local club. Especially one with a permanent layout, and maybe a modular layout for shows.

I wonder how many folks in the area are in the same boat. It amazes me that I can find half a dozen HO clubs, but not one O-scale one anywhere close.

Geez, I wish our club was closer to you all, we are in South Schuylkill county just two miles north of Cabela's. Our layout is basically operational, but needs updating and scenery refinement, as well as some Gargrave track replacement. We have three adult active members and a couple teens who are into trains, but are gaining interest in girls and college. If you would like to visit one day, as a group or individually, let me know a couple days in advance so I can arrange to be home, which is six doors away from our layout. As other inducements to visit our area, we have Roadside America, Cabela's, Port Clinton hotel, Port Clinton Peanut shop, and the famous Yuengling's brewery tour.

We at www.liberty-hi-railers.com would especially welcome new members whose job would allow them to be available for Friday afternoon setups as well as full weekend train running. We have great guys in our group (living as far north as Landsdale to Southern Delaware County), but many have work restrictions, military reserve weekends, church work, or are involved with their kids sports programs. I'm the only member who is retired.

Does retired count? My job is... well I have no job.

There are several in the Leigh Valley area ... guses that's too far north eh?

Depends on a show location. As I remember, Bill P. and I linked-up with the LV group at, I think, Reading. We also linked-up with Flower City at York last October. The key to participating at a distant (1-2 hours)show is wanting to stay over at a cheap $65. motel, or drive back and forth from home. The main thing is, can you show up at 1 pm on a Friday?

The Liberty-Hi-Railersare a great group of guys. A really good modular club to be involved with. Some really knowledgeable and helpful guys there.

Also, we have a new modular club that we are getting ready to put the green light on, The North Penn 'O' Gaugers. We are based in Lansdale, PA and have 6 guys ready to start and a few others that are interested. We have a booklet with all the info and specs just about done and will be posted within the month. Boy, the Lansdale location sounds good, that's real close to me! I've been to Hennings a couple of times, they're pretty close. This is the first time I've heard about this club. Will your updates be mentioned here?

I am interested in your group, I live off of exit 49 of 78 between fogelsville & trexlertown.

Take Amtrak to Lancaster. I live 5 blocks from the station. We are a modular club with no specific meeting place. We usually have a setup or two a month, except during the summer and would certainly welcome new members.

In that neck of the woods Bill that would not be enough for even appetizers, better make it 10 bricks to start.

Below is the link to a draft of the North Penn O Gaugers information booklet. Read it, print it, do with it what you want. There are still a few little things to adjust but the information is mostly in place. By the new year (Jan 2012) the framework for the intial sections will be in the process of being built (four corners and a handful of straights).

As you will notice this club is not following the Independent Hi-Railers standards that so many O gauge modular clubs follow. We have taken a slightly different route.

The Grange is in Havertown; near Rt.1. Bill is in the Carrage House there is no cost to go see the lay-out.

I would think that area would be strong in the o gauge market, York being a little west of Philadelphia.

There is an old time O gauge model railroad club in Cherry Hill, NJ ( a Philadelphia suberb) but I forgot the name and the location. I believe that one or more of the members are on this forum as I rememer chatting with his a few years ago. IIRC the club is something like 50 years old and they do have a layout in the basement of a church down there. The club seems to keep a low profle.
