I'm planning a structure build for Piedmont Blues, and am starting with a small Clevermodels kit - in this case the Brick Garage with Loft - and changing it into something totally different.

The idea is to use Clevermodels textures for the brickwork, and the roof, which will be sheet metal. The rest will be made from card and wood.

At least, that's the plan!

I'm not sure what industry this could be, though it wont be a rail served structure. The layout is set in 1965 - any suggestions on what it could be would be most appreciated.

The idea is that the original garage structure has been built on top of, the roof removed and a new, flat work area with an enclosed staircase up to both it, and the timber and clapboard tower structure.

I intend to build the structure in the way it would have actually have been built in "reality".

So, the garage structure will take centre stage at the beginning of the build. On top of that, I'll add timber cross beams, and build upwards from there.

I'll post progress photos as and how it goes.

Clever Brothers kits and paper are nice to work with.  The photo shows a kit bashed structure using an Ameri-Towne garage atop a Lionel Freight Station.  When I saw your sketches I thought of using two garages for most of the structure and fill it with model wood for the frame, card stock or foam board for the solid walls and then your choice of Clever Brothers paper for the outside walls.    Have you seen outside walls covered with spackle or dry wall cement which has been roughed up?  When dry and painted white, it resembles stucco.       John in Lansing, ILL

Ooooh, I like that kitbash John, mind if I have a go at replicating it?

Progress! We have a model now, instead of just a sketch! The basic shell is coming together nicely.

The garage itself is made from a core of artists mounting board - great stuff - and wrapped in the Clevermodels kit textures. I'm going to be having the doors/windows closed on the bottom floor, so the white interior won't matter. The rest of the structure is made up of 1/36" basswood strip, and basswood sheet with planks enscribed on one side.
