O Scale Model of the prototype PRR 470249 FW2 8-axle well car

The prototype PRR FW2 railcar is an unusual heavy duty well hole car that could have been used to transport mechanical structures such as heavy flywheels etc. As shown in the prototype diagram the distance above rail of the main support point is 8 feet, 11 inches at maximum loading. Capacity was 381,000 lbs.

Although this three-rail O scale model is designed to be close to the overall dimensions of the prototype it was not intended to be an exact copy of the PRR railcar. The overall wheelbase of the model is 14 inches. The overall length of the model is 15 inches or 60 scale feet. The truck bolsters on the model are articulated to allow operation on 36 inch O scale curves. The three-rail trucks are MTH rollerbearing types. The "spindle" structure has been permanently mounted to the car as shown. More details to be added.

Note: A typical scale model "load" has been made for installation on this railcar model. More photos coming.
