A step further and have completely done the gearbox and now it drives super slow and really awesome that voor a locomotive from Overland I think more than 30 years old but it has a big motor I like this one and this type of tender. The weathering is more I like and also did the plumbing under the cab more detail and fix one hose. Did not yet the tender. I hope this is something you like but the FEF locomotives are I think one of the prettiest. The lights are not working yet but I'm working on it. The side screens (smoke deflectors) need to be more weathered and did the silver line was not on it but my airbrush is now broken need a other.

Hello Ed,

great job! Did you replace the gearbox? What did you do? Thanks for the info in advance - very interested!

Sarah

Thanks Sarah, I disassembled the gearbox and put in new gears and used clock grease that works perfectly. The motor was already good, I think it will last forever and what I also did is new details on it because it is a old model but this kind of model will made never again and that is sad. What I saw on your forum that is beautiful you understand the trade of building and bring it to a very high level What I do is improve models but my heart is in weathering and as best I can.

Done a little bit on the tender today the braking system I don't have any pictures or drawings so I took a similar one they are all different under so for me it is the effect there is something. Overland did not complete the braking system but what you see on models now everything is on it. little more pictures of the FEF 818. The weathering on the boiler will done further hope to have a new airbrush soon.

Greetings Edwin, I really like your detailing and weathering!   My goal is to get into weathering several of my engines (steam & diesel) and rolling stock in the near future.   Would you please share some of your techniques with us?   I am very impressed with your work!

Cheers, Dave

PS:  Are you near/in Amsterdam?

Thanks Dave, if I go weather again than I take pictures of it how I do it but learn the most of techniques on internet you find a lot what others do but of course everybody has their own style. I was for more than 8 years in a club On3 scale learn a lot than, I do the most with revell paint but also tamiya paint and airbrush floquil paint also dry weathering for example powders you can do with that a lot. But you have so many techniques you can use the one I do is what I like.

well Amsterdam is not so near but also not far away.

Edwin,

Since you like the UP class FEF engines, here are photos that I took in Sacramento, CA (the state capitol), in September 2012 of #844 at Union Pacific's 150th Anniversary celebration.  FEF #844 was the last steam locomotive purchased by the UP and has never been retired from service.  NH Joe

This is #833 in Ogden, Utah.  This where the Central Pacific (Southern Pacific Railroad's predecessor) building east from Sacramento, CA and the Union Pacific building west from Omaha, Nebraska agreed to exchange traffic after joining the transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point in 1869.

I weather me crazy these days because also of the lockdown in The Netherlands I have to be careful not weather myself. This one is a overland model and for me is it always red difficult to weather so I try. I use thinner base colors and do dry weathering also I used pigment powders specially on the roof done the trucks but not yet the airbrush. Now is it drying and see how I proceed tomorrow. First picture you see so I bought it.

What's missing on the FA-2 overland models are the diaphragms so I order those hope to have it soon but did the air hoses it makes it more complete. some more pictures I think it is nice.

These are made by iPhone not with sun light I did something with that pictures but my lighting is not so good am planning to buy special lamps for good lighting so the rocks will be also better. I've never invested in good lighting it's time to do it. I did all those pictures on this forum as good I can with the lights I have.
