It really depends on what spacing you want.  Since I was doing parallel loops, I wanted 6" spacing all the way around, so I added a short piece of track between the two switches.  These are Ross 201 #4 switches, and they've been trimmed to fit in the straight space I had here.  The curves of this loop start right at the entry end of the switch.

Thanks for your responses.  However, I am not talking about crossovers.  I am wondering what pieces you need to make Parallel track.  For example, for a #5 turnout it says I need one piece of 4.5" straight, two pieces of 1.75" straight and a half curve O72 added on to the curve section of the switch to get to Parallel.    I'm wondering what I need for the O72 switch to get to parallel.
