No responses at all? Could they be right? US citizens don't know Canada exists?

OK - I have one. One. Huh. I actually have more Mexican pieces (a handful) than Canadian. Why is that? Gosh - another group of RR's to buy...Oy. Still kicking myself for not buying the Weaver 4-4-4 Jubilee.

Okay, Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette has run articles on some Canadian mining roads, maybe obscure to us south of the border (that border).  The White Pass and Yukon runs in(to) Canada.   I am sure there were others....all those big red grain elevators that once marched across eastern Alberta and the other Canadian prairie provinces.....some of them must have had their own short line serving them.  We have paid our admission and we want to see the models.  (I thought the problem was that U.S. citizens think New Mexico is ruled from Mexico City)

This is the one engine that took me longer to find than any other. The non-powered one will continue to reside in my display case. I use the powered one to pull my MTH Premier Via Rail passenger consist.

It's hard to believe but I found it on the big audit site's Australian counterpart.

Very nice photos good collections.

Here are some shots of my Canadian Pacific "Canadian" Passenger train on the ceiling loop.

And middle loop, runs over the washer dryer in the corner with a Rocky Mountains backdrop.

You can take a look at a lot of Canadian layouts photos and videos on the Canadian Toy Train Associations website;

To Midnightwrecking-- your CN 6153  and CP 2317 are really cool....did you kit bash them?  What locos did you use  to begin with?  check my post history for some of my kit bashes/repaints of Canadian locos....I will post more after I take some more photos.  John A

Hey John, 6153 is from a 736 Berk and 2317 is from a pre-war 225E and 47 is from an MTH 2-6-0. The tenders are scratch built. I cannot run big scale steamers at present so I fudge them out of semi-scale stuff. 6153 and tender are 21 1/2 inches long.

I have lots of connections with Canada, so I have included several themes in the layout I am building. First photo reflects my brother-in-law who is a retired heavy crane operator in Halifax. He worked on the Confederation Bridge to PEI. Had to use the CP gondola cars for my magnetic cranes.  Other photos show some fun with the popularity of beer in Canada and lobsters from the maritimes (the lobster car is not a Canadian road name, but still fun).  Mother-in-law born in North Bay, Ontario where we spend our summers on a beautiful lake, so I have an Ontario Northland theme (alas the railway no longer exists).  May look for a Canadian rail name for motorized unit for the rolling stock.  Now pulled by a Lionel loco. All fun.

Great idea for a thread!

Canadian Pacific had a big presence in New England, where I'm from and my layout is set. They interchanged with the Maine Central in Maine and Vermont, and jointly operated the Connecticut River line with the Boston and Maine.

Here my MTH GP30s (the only two sold new in Canada) meet the B&M. I'd love a set of red CP Rail C424s, but nobody's made them and I'm not holding my breath.1. gp30s front

Great collection of photos always colorful Canadian trains.  Love seeing what folks are posting.

Here is a MTH passenger set I painted up and had some custom decals cut from the same material VIA used on its Blue fleet. An old Atlas 2 rail A unit and Williams B unit. Runs on DC and have them wired together and led lights and extra passengers in the cars.

Tomar rear lighted VIA symbol looks good.

My modeling skills are pretty limited. My favourite diesel is CPR #1800. It's the first diesel I ever saw. Also, I've actually ridden behind it. I am really looking foreward to 3-rd Rail offering it later this year.

http://www.3rdrail.com/reservation.html#E89

I have already "Frankensteined" the MTH chassis to a Weaver shell, added wipers, a few grab irons painted yellow and stacks. The Weaver had no stacks??? And the grabs were black??? What WERE they thinking??? I stopped at trying to add LED marker lamps to the Weaver shell as I saw potential for cosmetic disaster with my limited skills. The same for the lousy number boards the Weaver came with. I suppose it will be retired when the 3-rd Rail CPR E8A arrives. But it's the only diesel I ever run. And the only locomotive I have that will haul all nine of my GGD 21" CPR heavyweights!

Wish I could help, Wayne. The Sruce Falls car is an Atlas O-Master car that I bought from a Canadian-based seller on Ebay early this past April. The prototype . . .

Love the idea of a Via Rail "Canadian" in O  gauge, but notice only the HO scale one is correct. Via Rail did not use Pullman cars, they used old Canadian Pacific Budd company cars. MTH just slapped Via livery on their Pullman molds. I would have bought a set by now, but it just bothers me too much! Nice layout though...

Mother-in-law born in North Bay, Ontario where we spend our summers on a beautiful lake, so I have an Ontario Northland theme (alas the railway no longer exists).

Sure it does.... It still  serves Northern Ontario, However traffic  heading south of North Bay is and was always  handled by CN  o r CP via   the ONR's  transfer yard at North bay on Lake  Ni****ing .  ( lumber & paper).  The ore train out of the north  which I worked for years   between ONR's  transfer yard and Hamilton is unfortunately done.  At one time a 100 car train of ore from the north  went to Pittsburgh PA.   (or someplace south of the border).   all done.

 Ok Lake N -I-P-I-S-S-I-N-G.    It's not a swear word.

Gregg,

Glad the railway this exists. I must be thinking about the passenger service from NB south to Toronto.  So my Ontario Northland freight rolling stock still a real thing!  Always liked the color scheme.

And yes, NB is on Lake Nip****ing, but our cottage is on a small adjacent lake, Trout Lake.  Don't ask if it still has any trout.

I agree Greg! The set was ordered by my LHS from the catalog, and it wasn't 'till I got it home I noticed they weren't correct. But they'll do...

It is frustrating that MTH doesn't really pay attention to detail, but I suppose that's the nature of the business. Like my Jersey Central & PRR Madison consists with 6-wheel trucks instead of 4-wheel.

But I have fun anyway!

Hi again, I'm pleased you are happy with your purchase. They are very handsome locos, I'm actually just starting to build my new layout today.

Jeff, Donald, Myles and others Awesome modelling!

Nice to see Canadian roads featured as well

Here are a few pics from my layout thread, I know I haven’t done much scenery the past two years but hopefully not going to have to move in a year .

Al and others,

I'm not a CP modeler, but I have always like the CP hudson ever since I was a kid, some 50 years ago. I keep looking at the Weaver CP engines but wonder how well they hold up, how good do they run and if the sound and smoke units are any good.

Would appreciate hearing from you Weaver CP guys as to the pro's and con's of Weaver steam.

Thank, Ray

  Hello Ray

The Hudson you see is an MTH Premier PS2 from a few years ago, that I repainted to more accurate colour.

The Weaver Royal Hudson was an ice breaker with us living north of the 49th parallel at the time, as no O scale models of any big Canadian steam had been produced (1990 approx)

Having said that, it is fairly accurate for the 2860 version but not as accurate for the 2858 version (should be Commonwealth instead of Buckeye tender trucks)

These models came out before TMCC , so just plain drive train with can motor.

I would recommend any of the MTH versions before the Weaver due to lack of command control

Al

I like to vary the ''era's '' I operate in. (Anywhere from 1950's to the mid /late 70's.)  Here's a couple pictures from last weekends operating session.  3 passenger and 5 freight runs in 3 hrs......... and that includes the one ''near miss'' at the diamond !   We ended with clearing a slide on the Kettle Sub.  IMG_20190313_200210IMG_20190313_200427IMG_20190313_201217

Here's a few more views from my Pacific & Great Western O Scale Division. Hope I get the caption order right. The first shot is taken showing the west entrance of the 5 mile tunnel. 2nd photo is looking downward towards a snow shed along the Rogers Pass area. This area is only 18 inches wide.  Next is a view of the Glacier View Lodge. This is still in the uncompleted stage.  Next is a shot of the bustling downtown Water Street. Finally, the diesel shops with a consist of SD 40's being prepared for a 671 potash train. IMG_20190314_200407IMG_20190314_200529IMG_20190314_200225IMG_20190314_200930IMG_20190314_201410

The Glacier View Lodge is actually simpler to build than you might think. I started with a paper drawing I sketched up.   I then cut foam core picture board and braced it with 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch wood cut on the table saw. Once the general design was achieved I white glued stained 1/4 inch dowel on the exterior surface. The entry arch and restaurant front are made the same way. I used Faller brand textured Matt board for the stone.  The room windows are temporary and will be cut out at a later date. The roof is just a smooth surface ready to be overlayed with home made shingle strips made from wood laminate that will be stained with an alcohol and India ink solution representing aged cedar. When fully covered,IMG_20190314_201026IMG_20190314_200812IMG_20190314_200053IMG_20190314_195230IMG_20190314_194705 it will really make the structure 'pop'. Here's more layout views showing Water Street, the 'Shifters' car show, the town of Golden, still under construction, IMG_20190314_194705IMG_20190314_194705and finally, an over head view of the roundhouse and the section house at Mara Lake.

There's one more project I've been working on, and that's my portable 'O' Scale modular layout that I run at train shows.  The ''Mexicali Grande ''. (It's modeled after US and Mexico but built here in Canada!   So does that classify it as ''Canadian trains'' in this particular portion of the forum?,   No, not really but we'll call it a ''leased loco''). This layout is also two rail but southern desert scenery and a variety of Mexico's finest!   I'll be setting it up this coming weekend at the railway show.  I'll try to find an appropriate O Gauge Railroading topic site to post some pictures on.  But for now, here's a picture of one of the loco's I use to run on the display and a few other of the home layout.   Enjoy.    IMG_20190317_195940IMG_20190317_204505IMG_20190317_204139IMG_20190317_204942IMG_20190317_205407IMG_20190317_210053
