Since I started this layout about 10 months ago I have built 90% of the bench work. And I have 90% of the track laid out. So this year health permitting I plan on getting my trains up and running, That means that I need to get some 14ga stranded wire in 6 to 8 colors. and then I need to get back under the layout and finish the painting and start drilling. just to name a few things. So this year I will have this layout up and running.

I made a resolution for 2013, which I am very pleased to report, I accomplished. It was to spend an average of one hour per day, working in the train room. As it turned out, it was closer to two plus hours per day. I also have two forum members helping me with this massive project.

For 2014, the goal is to have all track laid and powered, while maintaining the hour per day goal.

Oh, and I should lay off the bay too.

My son(10 years old) and I are going to take down the temporary layout I made for him 5 years ago and put up something better.

I bought those plastic "horses" at Menards and picked up hollow wood doors at Lowe's threw a piece of in-door-outdoor grass carpeting. It is 9x9.

I have the wood horses to replace the plastic ones which are coming apart, I'll line up the doors so the layout becomes 7x12. I discovered nice short mixed tan short fiber burbur carpet with a foam backing at Menards. It looks real desert-y and gravel-y. I've learned how to lightly drab some colors onto the carpet and it does look pretty acceptable as terrain.

We also want to have something elevated.

My purpose is to keep everything simple, have 2 or 3 separate lines and a small mountain in the corner. It won't look like what folks on these forums can do I can only dream about that, BUT I want to have fun with my son teach him a few skills and run the trains we have.

I am learning how to post pictures feel free to makes suggestions. I am open to help and ideas!!!

Thanks and Happy New Year!!!
