I recently bought 2 brand new subways along with a new TIU and remote. One of the subways runs perfect and scores perfect 10s throughout the whole track. The other subway has constant issues where it won’t start up, won’t listen to commands, runs away and blows the horn constantly until I pull the power. Out of luck I finally got it to run around the track and listen to commands. Doing a signal test the readings typically fluctuate between 4-5, sometimes dropping to 3 and occasionally going up as high as 7. So far I tried cleaning the rollers for the inside rail with a scotch bright pad and oiling the springs and rollers. I have the shell off it now and visually inspected the wires coming from the trucks. What else should I be looking for or what would cause one engine to get perfect 10s and another to be substandard? Also, when I ran the signal tests I only had one engine on the track at a time.

There were post about this. I'm guessing they are both PS3?

The large caps on the board should be bent over towards the board, and the wiring should be routed away from the torroid coil thing.

Also, there were many models that had screws that attach the wires at the trucks that had black coating on them. That coating should be stripped away to get proper electrical flow.

here's another idea (if this link works?)

Perfect. Thank you both. What I ended up doing was testing continuity from the rollers to the board. Everything was perfect. The wires to the connector on the board seemed to be stretched super tight. I cut the zip tie and pulled the wire harness off the board then reseated it. I’m getting 7-10s now and it runs perfectly. No loss of control. But now this one doesn’t have sound, at least I know why 🤪

When I get a replacement speaker I’ll put it in this one and finish doing the wiring as recomnded by the link in Joe’s post. Thank you all again.
