Operation on a non Legacy/TMCC layout

I know the differences between LC+ and Lion Chief, unfortunately I don't have any LC+ or LC Locos because things produced Haven't caught my eye except for the Santa Fe Mikado. I got another engine I want to get first, but in the mean time I have 2 question NS pertaining to operations.

1. For a big layout, the power pack and fast track section is not necessary, all you need is TMCC bricks that powers to 18 volts. Will it work with 18 volts on the track power?

2. Will it work on a Lionel ZW transformer and/or a MTH Z-4000?
