Hello,

I am looking for your opinion of a few locomotives that I am eyeing right now. Looking for common problems, pros, cons, etc.

1. Lionel 6-11229 Milwaukee Road 261 (2011 release)

2. Lionel 6-11454 Nickel Plate Road 765 (2014 release)

Thanks,

Jim

I have the 2014 Legacy Berk.  It is one of the best locomotives I own.  Sounds great and works perfectly.  The only issue I know of on these were the pilot axle bearings in some came loose during shipping.

Below the Signature...

"You should have bought a train."

These are both excellent locos, and they're both pricey.  Some considerations: O54 is minimum and both will look better on O72.  How big is your room?  How big is your layout?  And with 30" of loco, how much room do you have left for the train?

Creep, coast, and pull.  We're not talking about cold fusion here.

I have a carpet layout, currently running O72 fastrack. I can expand the layout, so space isn't a problem.

Killer sounds.  Railsound 5.5 or 6.0 , Legacy sounds what ever it is rocks the house.

The Lionel S3 has the steam chest smoke and stack smoke that share the same reservoir. There are issues with filling it properly. Make sure you fill them properly before you cook your smoke unit. Also the older motor driver board had some stability issues.

The 765 is a better bang for the buck. Great Sound, and fantastic detail. The bushings fell out of the pony truck, but a tad bit of super glue and you are back in business.

Another Legacy hit in the 4-8-4 wheel arrangement is the GS6 or GS4 Southern Pacific Locomotives. Best whistle out there.
