I agree the G Scale smoke unit looked awesome and it was probably better suited outdoors or at least a minimum having several windows left open.   A one person noted that, a single 6 sigma case shouldn't be used as the measure for a public display not to use smoke.

A sign could be hung simply stating that those with asthmatic conditions should be aware of vaporized mineral oil being used.  It isn't really smoke as it isn't being burnt like a cigarette releasing noxious gases and carbon.

All my life I've been plagued by cigarette and cigar smoke as it simply bothers me when I walk into a room or even if someone is smoking one outdoors.  I don't coke or anything, just bothered by it.  However vaporized mineral oil, aka train smoke, doesn't in the least bother me.   Everyone is a bit different and thus the challenge as to how to appease everyone.

In this case, the use of smoke is for display purposes to get the kids and adults interested.  Many on this forum complain about not attracting enough "young blood" well here is your chance to do that by evoking their imaginations with the smoke units running.  They can just see themselves doing the same thing at HOME with their own trains on their own pike!   This goes for some Dads as well!

Make it fun and they will come!

I put a G scale MTH Hudson's smoke unit into a SD70ACe scratchbuild. I guess I can only pretend that it has a bad cylinder. I do like the effect! I need to get all my engines to smoke this good.

My girl's daughter comes over and asks me to shut the smoke off. It bothers her and I can understand. Her children want the smoke on.

I tried buying the NADA scent but she still said it was the same. I want to try some better scents as we have scented oil dispensers upstairs. I think that people with allergies have trouble breathing and it may worsen when they smell something they don't like. I have allergies myself and the oil is the least of my troubles. I don't believe it's burned so I don't think there's any worry.  When it's a bad day for allergies, I sympathize.

I don't have any issues with paint, track cleaning, or anything caused by the smoke. I think rubber traction tires are a bigger track cleaning problem. I have run with the smoke on for over ten years. You would think I'd have to clean the walls from the oil residue the way some are describing the concept. There's no residue to clean. I think it's just a conceptual guess on something that doesn't really happen.

Engineer - Joe:  no offense as I really like the idea of upping be ante with a G scale smoke unit, and I think your diesel looks awesome and has great smoke output. But I have to say that based on what a G unit does, I'm very happy with our MTH diesels in both Imperial and Premier as they all have a very similar smoke output level.

The hardwood floor layout with the Hudson video - I am totally envious of that smoke output!  What is the secret?

The USA trains Hudson I believe, has a German made smoke unit used in model boats. Maybe the one sold by harbor models.
