Are there other manufacturers beside Bachmann who are producing 2-6-0 or 4-6-0 Steamers with Sound?

Are On30 trains reserved just for logging and mining operations?  What about general light freight duties?

Would such a train seem out of place hauling a small freight consist across my barren Mojave Desert?

Thanks, guys...

The Carson & Colorado would be a good example:

Also the Tonopah & Tidewater:

The T&T engine has a resemblance to the Williams ten-wheeler and some eyeballing might come up with decent proportions for a 2-6-0. There are a few 0-6-0 types around that could be adapted with a 2-wheel pilot truck. I think the Bachmann HO switcher has been marketed as a Mogul also.

HEY FIREWOOD,

Man, that's a great Photo Essay about NG Railroading from an earlier time!  It sure looks like there was a good mix of freight cars in some of those consists!

Your including those early Cowboy heroes was a nice touch too, as were the Alabama Hills where many Westerns were filmed.  (Randolph Scott was my favorite!)

But I'm not clear on one thing:

The full size boxcars, hoppers, gondolas and other cars seemed way too wide for those narrow tracks to support with a firm footing...it seems that there was always a "topple factor" involved on tight curves.

Thanks for a great post!

I guess the snails-pace speed of most NG roads was a good safety factor, maybe.

Some of them had transfer stations where the trucks were switched under the cars, so that standard gauge bodies ran on NG trucks.

One English 30" gauge line had NG flat-cars that carried the whole 2-axle standard gauge cars on their backs.
