These mostly multiple, excessively long and largely unnecessary quotes make it cumbersome to scan the topic, especially when they are repeated multiple times! My suggestion is to make a short reference to the post you are responding to instead of hitting the quote button! THANKS for considering my point of view!

Maybe more ALERTS to the moderators could help curtail such practices?

Not sure about alerts.  What is the rule that is being broken?

While I usually don't use reply with quote, sometimes using it may be needed if you are referencing a post that was done several posts earlier.  When I do use reply with quote I delete everything not related to my post, as I did with Hot Waters.  I almost always delete the pictures unless needed to make a point.

Just common courtesy?

EXACTLY! Too bad more folks don't do what you did/describe.

We should be thankful that we live in a world where we have the time an energy to complain about something so trivial.

How about we expend energy on something really important, like the folks who walk against the arrows at York?

Well yes, but at least you can look them in the eye and politely explain what they are doing is wrong! That option is not available here on the OGR Forums.

The problem is really prevalent in threads like the weekend photo thread and the annual Christmas layout thread where the posts themselves often do not have any words.  So when people respond, they just leave all of the pictures in their reply so that readers know what they are responding to.  I agree that it would be better to instead respond with the person's name.

Not to make excuses, but there's a good chance some users here don't even know they can edit a quote.  It is also quite possible that other people accessing this site from a phone don't have enough screen space to see the "quote" to which they are replying.  My "flip" phone doesn't give me that kind of access, so I can't say for sure.  Heck, I don't even know what some of the icons at the top of this "Add Reply" box do.

I believe the adoption of my suggestion would make it easier to read and scan topics.  :-)

What I find unnecessary is when someone replies to a post that has multiple pictures and clicks on 'reply with quote" which repeats all the pics again.

I agree and will try to help.  It’s especially cumbersome when all 20(or more) photos are duplicated in the quote.  I do try to delete as many as possible from the previous posts when making comment about a single one.

I think many people do not understand the difference between just typing a reply in the box as opposed to using the "REPLY WITH QUOTE" button. That's the issue here.

You can reply with a quote and delete what you want (pictures/wording) and leave what you think is necessary with your own comments

Absolutely! That is certainly the best way to do it if you are responding to some specific point made in a longer post. Takes a bit of thought and time, but certainly not much.

I don't understand either why guys copy an entire post to reply, for example, nice layout.  Just address the original poster by name, why copy the entire thing.  I can honestly say I've never done that because I never bothered to learn how to copy a quote.

I guess it could be worse!

I'll go to my corner now  and await my 50 lashes with a piece of FasTrack

Luckily I haven't seen too many people exhibit this level of the problem yet.
