What would make a sd70 ACe coupler fire on its own? proto 3. everything else works great. just wandering whats going on.

I had a PS2 coupler that did that. I found a short in the coil; I could make it happen by moving the coupler. I replaced the coupler ( there are 2 lengths) and that took care of it.
Constant electrical firing you can hear hum? Or just a mechanical failure opening? Or a random issue? THe first test would be unplug it and see if it still opens? If so mechanical issue and replace it. If not, but does do it when reconnected, then a stray short in the wiring or coupler. Better fix it before board gets damaged. G
