91% Isopropyl Alcohol Not 70% which is more common. Wal-Mart, Target & Walgreen's do carry it.
If you would perform a Advanced Search you will find additional methods.
Easy off oven cleaner or Super clean in the purple jug at Auto Zone.
Brake fluid also works.
I've been using the 91% Isopropyl alcohol lately with great results, but early last week I tried to strip paint off an old Weaver RS3 and the alcohol barely touched it. I ended up using brake fluid and it did the job. Later this past week I stripped a MTH Railking 2-8-0 using alcohol. Left it in the bath for 2 days and the paint came off in sheets. Still had a few tough spots to remove (should have used paint stripper being it was die-cast) so I had to re-soak it.
I made a "bathtub" using a piece of 4" PVC pipe about 12" long and glued a flat pipe cap to the bottom to hold the liquid and piece to be stripped. Most thing will have to be turned end for end to get all the paint off but it's cheap and works well.
I have used brake fluid many times over the years with great success.
Yep I have used brake fluid, it works.
One word of caution, it can soften the plastic if left submersed too long.
Check it now and then, take it out as soon as you can.
Oh it didn't do an harm, once out and rinsed the shell was ok.
