Last weekend, I started laying standard gauge O scale 2 rail flex track on this layout. After diligently trying to get nice wide curves, I discovered that none of my scrathbuilt rolling stock would negotiate them without binding up. Luckily, I haven't invested in any working locomotives yet.

The On30 track is on the way. My standard cars will be on static display at the left of the layout in an interchange area with the narrow gauge. I plan to model a whimsical late era South Pacific Coast line that never got standardized. The far end of the layout will be inside a long tunnel under part of the city. I am still fleshing out the track plans.IMG_1414

Check the track gauge?  Seems odd.

So your cars are binding on purple tape?  I thought they were binding on the flex track.....  Confused,

I imagine you will definitely enjoy On30. A fine modeling scale with participants who are demonstrating some truly superb craftsmanship. There's a Facebook On30 group administered by Al Judy (a contributor to our magazine) that shows off beautifully what can be accomplished. My next O gauge layout will also include On30 serving a mining or industrial operation.

On30 is a great way to do o scale in a smaller space so I'm sure you will be happy with your decision. We will be offering some On30 car kits that were done by Chris Comport under the name of Russian River. We also have a 2 stall stone engine house also done by him, here's a link for that: http://www.scalecitydesigns.co...CTURE-KIT_c_128.html

Thanks so much. I already use some of your stuff. You have a GREAT company!!!

Allan, you are right.

I was oblivious to this scale, because I was planning 2 rail standard gauge.

Since I've gotten "in the groove" now, I am amazed at what's available in the Spectrum line. I am also a big SP fan, so this is do-able.

I ran into the same problem, small room and even a large circle was very tight for 2 rail  O scale.   But I am going the Oe route, still On30 by nature, but modeling the meter gauge trains of the Baden-Württemberg area of Germany.   Marklin made a very short run of trains in the early 1970's, along with Faller, Fleishmann ect.   I can fit so much more narrow gauge in the space that was a challenge for standard gauge.     Good luck your venture into narrow gauge.    Mike
