Has anyone considered using the Lionel Polar Express o27 cars with a 259e?  I can get the cars at a reasonable price.  They have silhouette passengers and are illuminated.  They look like they would fit in a tinplate layout.  Seems like all I would need to change is the coupler on the front car.

I think they might be slightly too tall. The pre/postwar tin 2640/2440 passenger cars look great with engine's like the 259E at least partially because they are a bit shorter than other passenger cars such as 2613 Blue Comet cars or the later Madison 2623. By shorter, I mean in height. This is just opinion though, and I don't have my Polar Express cars handy to pair up to my 259 for comparison.  They may turn out to look A-Ok.

Spot on.

As promised, here are some photos, Smiling 2 yr old that can't stay still for a picture thrown in at no extra cost!P6034229P6034232P6034233

I put a plastic shelf up behind them for the last two pictures to make the height comparison a little easier. Certainly I think the height is a good match.  As to whether or not they work together well enough visually for a tinplate layout that is in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you so much John!  This is very helpful!

He looks very happy.  It's great when kids enjoy the trains given all the other distractions in life.
