We have developed a multi-optioned model of a Paterson (NJ) Silk Mill, originally in O Scale, and now our first offering in S Scale. Photographs of the 3-story ($75) and 4-story ($90) single 9" long section versions, and the 20-5/8" long 4-story ($240) version are shown below. These three models are ready to ship.
Here's our basic description of the 9" model. You can see all of the different ways that the model can be built up.
Todd Architectural Models has designed the third in a series of historic warehouse buildings, originally in O Scale, and introduced it as our first S Scale model. The Paterson Silk Factory building model was recreated from site photographs of two existing buildings. The buildings have a similar brick elevation, but have a variation in the cornice and windows. The model is suited for fabrication as a flat, shadowbox or building. Paterson (NJ), known as the home of Lou Costello and Larry Doby, location of the first documented manned submarine submersion and onetime silk capital of the world, can now have one of its classic mill warehouses on your layout.
The single section 4-story model features laser scored and cut elevation, window and door elements, and built-up laser scored/cut or styrene cornice detail. Each basic elevation piece measures 9” long by 10-1/8” tall. The Paterson Silk Factory building offered here is a built-up and painted as a shadowbox (nominally 1-1/4” deep). Basic elevation elements may be combined for a longer overall model and a separate 3-1/4” wide elevation element may be added to complete a 20-5/8” long building.
Now for the options:
In lieu of windows and/or doors on the first floor, you may specify between one and six freight doors.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with one of two window options, one with a single-height double hung window and the other with a pair of 2/3 height double-height with a 1/3 height fixed 4 over 2 pane.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with clear, translucent or Roscolux gray glazing.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with either a brick or cast stone cornice.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with all windows on the first floor, freight doors on the first floor, a pair of doors in window columns 3 and 4, or a single larger door centered between window columns 3 and 4.
The Paterson Silk Mill may be ordered with all freight doors in window columns 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 (oriented left to right).
The rear panel of the shadowbox is removable to allow for the addition of LED lighting. There are individual floors and ceilings that have a space provided for a square styrene tube that can act as a chase to hide post-purchase wiring. The ceilings each have cut-outs for the placement of 5050 LED lights.
If you prefer a prelit model, we offer the shadowbox lit with two 5050 LED’s per floor, all with individual leads, and the slotted square styrene tube.
The building is also offered as a 9" square or 9" x 20-5/8" long building by custom order.
