Pecos River Models

I assume you're talking about the Pecos River 50-foot boxcars.  They are scale and similar to Atlas O.  The diecast trucks and couplers are nearly identical to Atlas.

The Pecos river box cars are models of fairly large 50 ft cars.     They are pretty close to Atlas O in level of details and style of build.   I think the grabs and stirrups are a little oversize.    But all in all they are impressive scale cars.

These are great box cars, they track well and I was able to get quite a few ATSF models. Look good in freight service.

I have 7 Pecos River ATSF 50' double door boxcars (2 in green and gold Express service livery). They are scale, track well, and look good. They can usually be picked up for between $30-40, and are a bargain for what you get.

I think that Pecos River products were ahead of their time when the were introduced and still look pretty good on the rails.  Pecos River John's brass engines are still ranking highly in detail.  They rank with the best,even today.  They were priced similarly to 3rd Rail.

They rarely show up for sale.

These are great cars that were priced out of the market. I have picked up a few roads I wanted on ebay for 20 bucks through the years. Even the trucks have stamping marks on them! Not many roads were offered. They were the only supplier to offer a 50' ERIE single door car. Even today no one offers that AAR SD car which was very common back in the day. Only thing I don't like are the CHUNKY grab irons, otherwise they are beautiful quality box cars. I have 3 or 4 of them in my collection.

I know this is the 3R scale group.  Do have the SP 50' auto boxcar with "tinplate" trucks/couplers. Big bottom steps.  But an SP boxcar livery I grew up with.

Maybe one can find some set up for "tin" and convert to 3R scale.

"Pecos River Plastic", which was what "Pecos" John Smith, proprietor of the late "Pecos River Brass"  called them (at least in some of his ads. They were (to the best of my knowledge) originally aimed at the 2 rail market, but since a 3 rail dollar is the same as a 2 rail dollar they were sold as both types. I don't recall if John offered them with either type trucks, but I'm guessing so.
