This fabulous picture came across my Facebook feed today. When I visited the Starrucca Viaduct a few weeks ago, I wondered if it was still in use - guess this answers my question!!!

The photo was accompanied by the following text from the photographer:

One big appearance before retirement? The Capital Region Toys For Tots Train was an unqualified success, giving out thousands of gifts and clothing items along the way. But a moment on the return trip eclipsed all of the other photographic opportunities as JCTX former Pennsylvania Railroad E8As 5809 and 5711 were allowed to appear leading for a brief moment as the pair of NS SD60Es were uncoupled while the train was brought to a stop on Starruca Viaduct On Sunday, December 2, 2018. This was the culmination of months of planning and coalition building, and will hopefully not be the last appearance for these vintage gems.

I’m not sure if this was a drone shot. There was higher ground in the direction of where the photo was taken, but I’m not sure if it would have a clear view. Here is a pic from my visit looking in the direction the E8’s are facing.

APPLES55, where are those E8's stored? I would love to go see them.

If I'm not mistaken, those are privately owned by Bennet Leven (sp), and are kept in a secure building/area in either Altoona or maybe Philadelphia area.

Juniata Terminal refers to the Juniata neighborhood of North Philadelphia. Mr. Bennett Levin houses his collection in the former Pennsylvania Railroad Less-Than-Carload Freight House, located on the south side of the Northeast Corridor, between Frankford Junction and North Philadelphia.

Note the rail equipment parked along the north side of the structure. There is a derelict E-unit, some passenger cars and a baggage car, etc

Juniata Terminal Dead Line

This shot was taken from a passing Amtrak train by a friend of mine.
