Plasticville is one way to go.  Yes, they are "Toy Like" but if you are not a "Purist" some of the kits look rather nice if you Dress Them Up a bit.  One way  of dressing them up is by painting them more realistically, using glue to make the structure stronger at the joints, adding window treatments and interior lighting if desired.  Your only limit is your imagination.  I know the Plasticville collectors are grinding their teeth at my suggestions but I'm not talking about the pristine, collector grade buildings in minty boxes.  I'm referring to the ones you might find at a train show that are missing a few small insignificant parts without minty boxes.  Yes, there are bargains to be had but ya just gotta look.  Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!
