I am going to use GarGraves Phantom Tinplate 3-rail track and need to decide on a curve size. I am thinking I need a larger curve - something like 120 or larger, but would like to see some photos first of how a 21" passenger car would look in the curve. If anyone has any photos of 21" passenger cars in 120 or larger curves, I would love to see them. The cars I am using have kinematic couplers.

I suppose you could draw a 120" diameter arc on a tabletop. and then arrange the railcars along the arc, to see how they would look at that curvature.

Actually - this is a great point - thank you. Not sure why I didn't think of this. Not the same as actually seeing the cars on the track, but certainly it would help me figure out what size curves I need. I have noticed that most shops do not stock anything bigger than 072, so it is not as easy as taking the cars to the shop and throwing together a few curves to see how they look in the curve. I luck out here a little because I do not want a typical smaller rectangular layout. I am looking at something that meanders somewhat. I have always preferred real wide curves regardless of the size of the cars or locomotives. I just want to make sure my passenger cars look great in the curves.

Picture of 21" cars on 114 inch radius,120" behind.

I didn't have the heaters on so I went ahead and shot the 114 inch radius, but I think you get the idea.

Happy modeling,
