Folks

Hi. I want to pull my US Navy themed cars with something that was actually operated by the US Navy. I found this!!!

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?id=USN

So I’ll start going through the pictures. I’m going to want to go with a high end model MTH Premier or Lionel top end (Legacy?) Probably not brass. When I find “the loco” to buy, I’ll have it painted.

Sure I can stare at the pictures and then search the catalogs. I’m counting on you folks being able to tell me which available models will be closest to what the Navy actually used. I’ll miss the details.  I’m not a fan of the 44tonner style. The new NWSC VO1000 livery doesn’t really appeal, but if it really close to prototypical, maybe it’s an easy choice. I do like the loco. I bet the new BL05 isn’t available in O yet

any input welcome.

thanks

Marty

Any USN diesel models...should be painted yellow with black lettering (although RMT also did a few BEEPs and matching caboose) in postwar toy train blue).

Genset, SW-7/9/1200 other than Baldwin VO or S switchers and GE-44 tonner. Not really any 'road' GP diesels are/were used.92453-2 US NAVY-Earle #892453-3 US NAVY-Earle #996953 NAVY-EARLE #63-00239 CABOOSEe

RMT made 3 BEEP #s (7-8-9) in yellow painted/lettered for NWS/Naval Weapons Station-Earle and a matching Earle caboose #63-00239. RMT photos above.

Lionel/MPC made SW-7 (NW-2) switcher in correct yellow/black a few years ago that you can still find on secondary market.

Thanks! I’ve got a few of your Pearl Harbor Blue Beeps, the caboose and the boxcar. My daughter runs one under her tree. It’s cat proof! I’m always peeking back for the NWS Earle stuff. When it pops back up, I’ll be there.

I’ve got Navy and Naval saved on that secondary site. The Post War Alco diesel AB set in Blue always pops up. So does the starter set NW2 with the calf. That’s why I’ve decided to go with a repainting.
