Hello everyone,

I'm looking for pictures of legendary stylist and industrial designer Leland Knickerbocker. I can't find any in books or online. I was wondering if anyone would have some. Thanks in advance!

There was an issue of “Vintage Rails” that had a feature article in their series of railroad art which I miss.. This issue featured EMD paint schemes their art and the designers maybe 23 or so years ago and it obviously mentioned Knickerbocker and the Warbonnet.

I just can’t recall if there was a photo of “him” in the article. I do remember a photo with the illustrators and a GM stylist conferring so maybe that was? It’s been a long while since I looked at it. I know it had photos of the original artworks for various roads. Anyone remember that issue and what month? I have it it’s just not accessible for me now.

I would contact GM public relations and ask them for one I am sure they can come up with something for you. Probably for a nominal fee.

Ah, OK -- I couldn't read it due to a paywall, but the age sounded about right.

Edited to add: ...except that the one in question died in 1939.

Santiago, just to add to what Rusty already pointed out. The image of Leland Knickerbocker is not a photograph, but rather a self-portrait Watercolor Painting and according to Kalmbach Publishing, is the only known image of Leland.

I know that the Santa Fe Historical Society and Kalmbach have worked closely together on past projects. However, time passes by pretty quick and maybe the Society now has more information that Kalmbach may not be aware of... just a thought.

Thanks for chipping in, Charlie! I’ll look into it as well for sure
