I need the specs on 691-PCB1-064 103 E unit to fix a 6-18085 4-6-2 Pacific . The TMCC upgrade was installed and only works in conventional mode . Lionel has been no help .  Hope someone has fixed this 20 year old steam Loco with additional wiring and mods . I bought the locomotive from someones collection that gave up on it working correctly . I have checked the R2lC board in another engine and works fine . I have wire listed the backplane  691-PCB1-o5F . Also found errors with Lionel docs with their wiring diagram S44-3-5 . I could use the help.  Thank you

There is no additional wiring mods.  Did you follow the directions and move jumpers on Mother Board?  The supplements have wiring diagrams if I remember correctly, but this is pretty straight forward.  Make sure the antenna is not grounded also.  If it is no TMCC operations.  I assume this started conventional and modified for TMCC with the R2LC.  Directions are on Lionel website too.  G

Thank you for the reply . Yes I moved the jumpers and followed the instructions and the antenna is not grounded .
I have found mistakes in supplement circuit drawings . Even got a jumper wire mod from Lionel via the Director of Customer 
Support at Lionel .I had already found this mistake prior to his e-mail and had it installed . Did not fix the TMCC problem.
Lionel has a Reworked backplane 691MB0001A with a undocumented wire jumper installed. How about the signal names for the 103
E-unit and pinout . I have bought a replacement backplane and made a wire list of both backplanes they are the same.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I have tried all 16 of the reset codes and Tried the R2LC board in a Good TMCC locomotive and it works just fine.

It should work, although admittedly the instructions aren't the best. If someone has tried to modify things, that'll obviously make things even more difficult to diagnose.

This is the generic upgrade instructions that also cover your locomotive. It's been revised a few years after the ones provided with your locomotive, so it's possible (although I haven't checked) there's some updated information contained therein.

Lastly, the 34 restore code for the R2LC will be the only one that will work when everything is properly installed.

I have the Lionel version, Southern and NYC.  I converted the SS/Conventional Lionel one to TMCC and RS no problem.  I converted the NYC to Cruise no problem.  There is no diagram on the 103 unit, but if you have a known good R2LC (check it with another engine), good programing switch, good antenna, then you need to trace the wires pin to pin for continuity.  Those lionel connectors are not the best.  You also need to trace mother board for opens.  At that point maybe swap the 103 unit.  It may have a bad component.  Engine should run without tender and that is how I would test at first.  G

Can you give me a inventory of the boards w/ rev level and the backplane p/n and rev level in the engine.

I have checked the R2LC radio board in another TMCC locomotive , works fine. Replaced the 103 e-unit no difference, works in conventional mode only stand alone. I replaced the backplane and did a complete wire list of both they match and no command mode. Installed the jumper as defined by Lionel no difference.

You do not have a second engine like this do you?  It is baffling.  There is only 4 parts to this.  R2LC, Mother Board, the 103 board, and the wiring.  Does the lockout switch (program switch) work in conventional?  Based on what you did, the only possible explanation is the 103 you have is a conventional only type.  But you said you replaced it??  Where did it come from?  What R2LC Code?  Mine where C07.  Lastly there is a 104E unit CMD ready.  Though all the documents show the 103E for these applications.  I would ask Lionel is there a code issue. G

The program/run switch has no effect ,It runs in conventional mode only ,no tender. The R2lC board is 04 the backplane is 691-PCB1-05F rev B. its replacement is rev B also. The E unit is 103/4E rev B, chip is E_cmd04 with heat sink . The replacement is 103/4E rev B , chip is E_cmd04 without heat sink .

What do you mean the R2LC is 04??  C04?  It should be a C07 or 08.  It is not a R4LC is it?  Or a S04 code?  If so that is legacy and could be part of the problem.

As far a run program switch, according to instructions that should also be a lock out in conventional. If it has not effect, does it close and open?

You said you swapped in a different R2LC?  What code was that?  As I stated R2LC C07 or 8.

Again this is not complex.  If R2LC is plugged into mother board and has an antenna connection, is in the run position, has power, and has been programmed with a code you should at least have head light and coupler control.  Does it? If not one or more of the above is bad.  If the tender is connected and the serial data to it is good you should have bell and whistle control.  If it starts up in conventional with sounds.  No serial data getting to the tender, or code is wrong in R2LC or Tender boards bad.

You need to start eliminating issues on the engine.  Otherwise you will never get this resolved.  And you need to consider a dual failure or parts.  G

You may be beyond this point, but did you try it with the switch in the opposite position. There were switches installed or wired backwards at the factory in some engines.
