However, my wife and I would like to get in to the model train world. (Perhaps me more so than her.) I think the Polar express would be a great start. Our daughter loves the movie, and my wife wants to start collecting Christmas villages. As for me, it’s a train, need I say more? We really like what Michigan & Ohio Valley Lines has done and would like some advice as to how to move in that direction with the trains look and features. It definitely seems much more realistic than what I have seen.

Thanking you in advance for your courtesies in this regard.

I have all of what your family likes. The PE LionChief or the PE LionChief w/ Bluetooth are great starter sets.  As for the ceramic buildings those can be found on eBay was well, with out paying retail. The pictures and video are from last Christmas.

Wow, that’s nice! My wife would love that setup. Are those trains the Legacy trains? I think those are the trains I’m looking for. They  seem to have the detail I’m looking for. However, I get confused with the conductor on the side of the car and how you can see people on the inside of the passenger cars. Also, I think the chocolate car has people in it and the puppet car seems to have puppets in it.

They're not Legacy, They're LionChief. All of the cars are decorated with images of passengers in the cars. The newer cars will have color images in the windows. The Conductor car is an add-on car. This doesn't come in a set. The Hot Chocolate car is also an add-on. In the set all you get is 2 coach cars, an observation car and I think the Hobo car. There is also a baggage car, a dining car and a combination car. I think I have about 9 or 10 PE Baby Madison cars.

Here's a link to give you an idea:

And everything that is available for the PE:

The video is of the scale PE. The Lionel Legacy line. The snow blown cars in the video was done by the owner known as weathering. The price you saw on eBay for the cars is the going price for scale Lionel cars.
