I know that somewhere in the Lionel Support section or as a previous thread in this Forum there must be a tutorial or instruction sheet on how to disassemble a PE observation car (traditional) in order to replace a burned out bulb.  But I've wasted enough time trying to find the magic search words.....no luck.

And, of course, the original instruction sheet that came with the car is no longer with the car (part of an estate lot).

We've found how to loosen the roof of this car, but clearly there is restraint in the rear end....the rounded roof portion.  It would seem that to access what appears to be screws in the underside of the roof overhang, one must remove the platform railing.  And therein is the next major issue.  How do you do that without damaging/destroying the railing???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Ah, well,....I think I found the problem.  The previous owner had applied glue to the two tab extensions on the railing that engage the back wall of the car.  So, the only way to get the railing out is to sacrifice the point (skinny post) on either side to which those tabs are integral.

Done.

Bulb replaced.

I believe the railing is salvageable...replace the posts, devise a secure attachment between the car and porch floors.  Not being very collectible, the car will be wholly functional and the outward appearance hardly compromised.

Sorry for the post....
