I'm looking for a reason to justify pre-order of one of the new cars in the 2021 catalog.  But until they resolve both the RPO and the hobo, I don't think I can make that justification.  Who's to say they don't revert back to being color-blind.

I pre-ordered 2 of the snow covered cars from the catalogue.  I then realized the writing was above the windows.  My set the writing is below.  Be careful, it is easy to miss.  I was not disapointed when I cancelled though, the set has enough cars and does not really need more.  I am hoping the Hobo is correct and is the last car.  Shells for the RPO are out sometime in March at last report.

I'm waiting on a Hobo Car and have not seen any indication they've been delivered yet.  I too will watch to see what color we get as I have a RPO car with the light blue.

Another thing that needs addressed is the words "Polar Express" on the white roof sleepers in the new catalog.  They should be below the windows to match the other cars in this series.

Hobos are at dealers - I got a pickup notice. I’ll get it over the weekend (assuming the color is correct).

To your second point, they did just the opposite in the 2020v1 catalog with the hobos - both the black and white roof cars were shown with lettering below the window.  On their FB show, they said they’d be delivered correctly on the black roof cars (i.e., above the windows) - we shall see.  I’m not sure why getting them right in the catalog illustrations is so hard, but apparently it is.

If nothing else, correct the online catalog version so we know the concern has been heard and addressed.

I think it may be on purpose.  There are 2 sets out there.  Just make sure what you order what matches yours.  The cars are almost identical except for name location.  I remember past confusion about this.

I'm aware there are 2 sets. Black roofs have PE above the windows and white roofs below on the previous releases

The 2021 catalog depicts both black and white roof sleeper cars with PE above. The white roofs should be below the windows.

I missed seeing this one too!
So, here is the question,
On the snow covered cars, where do you put the name of the car (North Pole, Believe) if you put the Polar Express below the windows?
Has anyone discussed this with Lionel?

Has anyone taken delivery of the Hobo Scale car yet?  If so how's the color match to the older cars?

I received mine yesterday.  I did not get a pictture, but the color was spot on the originals.  My hobo did brake off at the stem in shipping, but some CA took care of that.  At this point, I personally am expecting the RPO will be good.

Marty, I agree the colors of the hobo cars match very well. What doesn’t is the clear windows versus the green ones from the prior releases. I need to take the time and figure out which parts to order to convert all my green windows. The clear ones look so much better.

I would also like to convert all of my original cars to LEDs when I have them opened for the window swaps. I know GRJ makes a nice LED - would be great to know how the color/warmth of his kits match the factory lights of the new cars.

Is anyone going to York that can ask about when the PE RPO car fix might happen?

Latest word from a few months ago was Aprilish.  I’m about a week from Follow-up on a warranty repair.  I’ll ask then.  Try the Lionel email and see if there is an answer.

Bottom line, this better happen well before York.  If that late,  “fegettaboutit”

Marty, I don’t doubt that Lionel has sent you an email. They haven’t returned mine. They also haven’t publicly provided any details that I’ve seen. There was a passing reference in another thread that said they might make shells. Interestingly, the RPOs are no longer on the shipping schedule. It would be great if they would come out tell everyone what, when, and where.

On the phone this morning to get an idea of how my 7 weeks still is in the Que.  I asked Aaron, as I said I would, where are the shells.  Response:

"Good morning,

I got a response back extremely quickly about these. According to our production team, these are currently in transit to us right now. I would expect them within the next 3-4 weeks based on how quickly they move through the port of arrival.

Have a great day,"

Thanks for following up.  When Aaron emailed me back last fall I was pretty certain these would be done.  Glad they are finally on their way.  Hopefully soon we'll get a procedure on replacing them.

FWIW: I think what I learned is in-line with what was already stated:

Lionel e-mailed me recently and stated that Lionel will send a service bulletin to their dealer network and direct them how the return process will work; then dealers will e-mail customers to explain what exactly needs to be done for the warranty process.

It seems things are finally happening to get the shells replaced.

Maybe I misread the 2019 V1 PE cars listed on Pages 152 & 153.  I preordered them to match the 6-84811-6-84815 PE cars shown in 2017 V2 catalog.  When I received the RPO (1927351) the blue was a lot lighter than the cars in the 2017 catalog that I now have.

Did I get this wrong and this RPO is not meant for the cars listed in the 2017 catalog.  I hope that is the case, because this isn't even close.

I started this topic 1 1/2 years ago.  I did not think it would make 4 pages and still active.  For those who have been on this long ride, rejoice the train is closer to the station.

In the last 6 weeks, Katie and Aaron have told me this is wrapping up.  I think even on a container sitting amongst the other gazillion containers stuck off a port.

No.  They’ve emailed responses to some, ignored others, but have never made anything public. I’ve asked my dealer a couple times and they’ve heard nothing either.

That’s not exactly true. Ryan addressed this in an earlier post about the N&W J.

Thank you to all who have asked questions and reached out to Harry already. To clarify on the points made above:

  1. Lionel is covering shipping both ways to Harry. When you contact them, you will get a call tag which is billed to our account.
  2. Passenger cars are not included in the Lionel offer, however you are welcome to talk to him about having these repainted at your costs of course.
  3. Polar Express cars are a separate issue entirely – these will be remade in Korea.
  4. Our understanding is that Harry is using decals for the relettering. Unless otherwise specified, all will be relettered with the same road number that you send in.

So, if all you want is to have the stripe repainted, email Harry. When you get the call tag, carefully pack your locomotive for shipment, apply the label and send it in. Once finished it will come back to you and the service will cost you nothing.

If you would like anything else done along with the stripe repaint, please indicate that on your email. Costs for those services can be worked out between you and Harry. Lionel will cover the locomotive shipping and stripe repaint costs. Anything over and above that will be your responsibility.

Thank you.

Ryan Kunkle

Another month has gone by. What was supposed to be spring slipped to June and now appears headed to August and beyond.  The current run of RPOs has shown up. Given the continued silence, I’m beginning to believe there is something wrong with the replacement shells - to the extent they ever existed in the first place.

I’ll say it again, a little communication would go a long way. If we’re stuck with these as-is, fine, just let us know so we can either live with them, repaint them, unload them, back over them with the car, etc. (FWIW, I’m aware of the passing mention Ryan made a year+ ago in the thread relating to the J fiasco regarding these being “remade” - I just don’t put any credibility in it given it lacked all details and has never been followed through on.)

My Kool-Aid is pretty thin at this point.  It is not something that I want to bring up to Ryan at York.  If they want us to pound salt, just say it.  At least closure, right?

FWIW, I will give him a list if we want to put one together.  OGR handles, I would think OK.  Keeps personal info to a minimum.

Email customer service or better yet call them. I was told today I could send them some info and they’d give me a prepaid label to send the car to them to replace the shell

Nice recommendation PRR.

I can confirm from a phone converstion (just now) with Heather in Customer Service,  no formal announcement or even one planned they are executing their solution.

Contact service and get an RMA with a pre-printed label.  Send old one in, get newly installed chell car back.

FWIW, Katie has moved on to a new adventure.  Aaron & Kristen are still there.  Heather transferred from another department to trains.  She has been at it for about 1 month.  She seems very pleasant.

No formal announcement?   Did they even let the dealers know. I have been one of the ones that emailed and was told they would be made and now you were just going to hope I called back?  Unbelievable. So they had shells made and as long as no one asked they’d just sit on them?

Executing a solution?  A solution would be announced. If this is truly the way they are executing their solution then shame on them.

I’ll be calling this week to get a RMA but I really hope this isn’t the way they were going to handle this.

I'd be lathered up about this also Marty.  Look through the topic and you can see some people that are in the same boat.

Picture this...  time goes by.  Factory cleanout.  What are all these extra shells for. Unfortuantely there solution is in a waste fill outside of Concord.   How many non matching cars will be out there in the future, only because owners did not know.

I'm not one to gripe, but come on guys, this is simple "blocking and tackling"  Easy stuff to fix at no expense.  Just give a ........
