Hello friends, I am currently in the process of upgrading to a WIU.  I decided to run the trains some more using a remote that has been giving me problems with scrolling in the past.  I ran a TMCC engine just fine with a CAB-1 controller.  In switching to DCS, however, I am getting a "TIU address not found" message.  Double-checking my connections seemed to be OK.  At the present, I am powering the TIU via Fixed 1 (that will change in the future).  There are only two channels being used, Fixed 1 and Variable 1 for my yard.  Could the problem be the erratic remote?  The READ function does not seem to be working.  Thanks in advance for any hints.  I'll try to provide more info if needed.

Disconnect the TIU from your layout. Keep the remote tethered to the TIU. Connect the TIU to only a straight piece of track with 1 engine on powered track and see if the system works.

Then, if you have the remote still tethered and you press read, what exact message do you get?

What is your track power source?

What is the exact engine you are testing with? PS2? Have you done a battery test on it?

Then if the system responds, do a track signal test.

It seems that both my TIU and Remote have outlived their days.  The Remote was running 4.3, along with a VERY erratic thumbwheel.  My TIU blew out the main board (not bad for a 10-year old component).  so my next step is to bite the bullet and get a new Remote Set (TIU + Remote).  With the newer version of the TIU, I won't have to worry about splitting cables up.  Gonna run me about $350 or so.  Time to start saving those pennies!
