I may be trying to do too much here......

I have a ZW-C Controller w/2 Bricks, DCS, TMCC and Legacy.

Everything is working fine, but was re-reading the ZW manual, and discovered I could independently control each of the legs from the ZW controller with the Cab1/Cab2.

 

I think the problem comes in because I have the DCS in the mix as well.  I can and have used repeatedly the Var 1 and Var 2 tracks (DCS) for operating conventional.  Then thought IF I programed the ZW with either the CAB1 or CAB2, theoretically I could also be able to control conventional with the CAB1 or Cab2.  But it doesn't seem to work.  After I programmed the ZW and monitor the voltage output at the ZW, the voltage drops as I would expect.  However, measuring the voltage at the track it is a constant 16v.  

 

The DCS TIU must be redistributing the power from the ZW to the TIU Inputs and providing a constant output to the various 4 tracks.  Don't know if that makes sense or not.

 

Next step would be to remove the power (using external TIU pwr supply) from the TIU and see it it works then, but I don't think that would be a reasonable alternative UNLESS the TIU Inputs were all totally disconnected.

 

Think I should probably just leave well and enough alone and not mess with it  Any thoughts?

 

Sorry for all the rambling, but it "bugs" me to see if I'm doing something wrong, or trying to make something work that wasn't intended to.

The TIU doesn't redistribute.  What ever the input voltage is to Fixed 1 and 2 is what comes out.  For VAR1 and 2 it can not be higher then the input voltage.  Only lower if you lower the output of the VAR channels.

 

The simple test is to control the ZW-C with the CAB-1 and see if you can raise and lower voltage of the ZW.  Simple lighted lockon will work.  G

G, Thanks for the reply.  I have been able to vary the voltage of the ZW (I have the  digital meter accessory that sets on the controller.  And the meter responds accordingly.)  However when I put a meter across the rails the voltage stays at 16-17vac.  So it seems that the DCS system is maintaining the voltage.  I do gave the variability with the DCS on TR1 and TR2.  Was hoping I would be able to do the same with the CAB2.  Think I need to eliminate the DCS from the connections to do that.
