Post war tender item number

Found this on eBay: Frame
Looks like they had a ground problem on their cheapeast engines.

What an interesting piece of paper! I haven't seen it before.
I think it does help to narrow down the item number.

I took a look at the Ebay auction too. That appears to be the same frame.

Yes, when a axle wiper is installed on a 1130 tender front truck it now becomes a 242T.

CW, this item is also identified in the Greenberg's Guide to Lionel Trains, 1945-1969, Volume VII: Selected Variations. Chapter II is devoted to Tenders.

There are descriptions and pictures of the 1062T Slope Back tender with the grounding strap, part #581-9 on the ground truck, #582-50 with a special drawbar that allows for an electrical (ground) connection to the engine. Without the grounding strap truck it's a 1061T.

The description in the Greenberg guide matches the Lionel notice posted above.

Also pictured is the 242T which is basically the 1130T/1060T mentioned in the above post.

It's funny, I have the Greenberg variations book, but I hadn't thought to look there.
As it turns out, the Greenberg book is not 100 percent in concert with what I have, and what has been posted here.

The Greenberg book lists both the 242T and 1060T tenders as being unpainted. The tenders I have are definitely painted. I know this because one of them has flaking paint.

The Greenberg book does not list a 1062T.

Are you sure they are all original? Maybe the trucks and shell have been modified/switched. G

My mistake. I thought the 1062T was going to be a streamlined tender.
It's listed under slopeback tenders.

So I guess these are 242T tenders.

There are no indications that anything was swapped.
