I am trying to post short videos to the forum using my Mac computer 11.7.  I use the Safari browser.  I upload the videos the same way that I successfully upload photos.  (I don't have any issues with photos.)  The videos appear in the post and the Crowdstack software says that the upload was successful.  However, the videos don't play when I click on the play button.  I took the videos on my iPhone 13.  They have a .mov format.  I have seen other people on the forum use .mov successfully.

Here is an example of a 17MB video that I just uploaded to the forum.  I took the video on my iPhone.  The video automatically appeared in Photos via the iCloud.  I exported the video to my Mac desktop and then uploaded it to the post using "Add Attachments" process.  I am wondering why the video won't play.  Thanks for your help.  NH Joe

Doesn't play on MacBook Air M1 with Ventura 13.2.1 - Safari browser.

I've always preferred uploading to YouTube and embedding video here from YouTube - never fails.

Jim,

Uploading to YouTube is a work around that I have used in the past.  I would prefer to just upload the video directly.  It saves steps.  Thanks for your input.  NH Joe

I realize you're talking about a MAC and this may or may not be relevant.  However, I had somewhat a similar issue about a month ago with Mozilla Firefox not playing .mov files, whereas Chrome played them just fine on the same PC.  The same videos would play fine in Safari on my iPhone.  Did a little reading on the internet and found that there's a setting in Firefox [Disable Hardware Acceleration] or something similar, that resolved the issue.

This is getting more interesting.  I signed in with my alternate browser, Firefox.  The video played fine with Firefox.

It appears that Safari is the issue.  I just need to find out what it is.  Thank you for your input.  NH Joe

NH Joe,

Just tried 3 different ways on MacBook. Safari = no go. The length was 0:00, which is a good indictor that nothing was seen (not to be confused with *nothing there*.

Firefox = 0.13 seconds and it played

Chrome = 0.13 seconds and it played, so rolled up, I'd have to blame Safari. Seems to be some consensus on that.

I liked the video and encourage you to keep rolling! Now slightly off-topic, can you tell me where you got those nice girders?? I am in need of some of those!

Yes, it appears to be a Safari issue.   Maybe Rich Melvin will have some idea why this is happening.

The girders are girder bridge plates from Scenic Express.  They have been painted and fastened to the side of the bridge using Scotch extreme double sided tape from the hardware store.  I have also used Alien Tape.  These plates have been outside rain and shine for several years.  Here is a link to the site:

  • Will not play using Firefox 112.0.1 (64-bit) on Windows 7 Pro.
  • Will not play using Opera on Windows 7 Pro.
  • Plays OK using MS Edge Version 109.0.1518.95 (64-bit) on Windows 7 Pro.
  • Will not play using Firefox 112.0.1 (64-bit) on mid-2010 MAC running OS Mojave.
  • Will not play using Safari Version 14.1.2 on mid-2010 MAC running OS Mojave.

I have not tested this on my Ipad.

It won't play on my 2015 MacBook Pro with the latest version of OS Monterrey, but I would attribute that to age and obsolescence of the device, which still accepts Monterrey updates but will not allow loading the latest version of Mac software, which I believe is called Ventura.

As info, when I upload videos, I first copy them into a desktop file I call Video Uploads and then put them on the Forum from there.  There is always a waiting period of several minutes before the videos will play for me on the Forum, but they do work as intended after that period.
