Ok, here is the challange. I like Postwar and the PWC CC etc items. I like to run long postwar style trains.  Not the 3 to 7 car stuff that was cataloged.

You are incharge of the postwar set development department at Lionel.  You get to decide what items go in what sets.  But you have been assigned a specific task since sales of sets are declining.  Sets need more play value, be more realistic.  So you have been asked to put together new sets, or enhance any of the existing sets.

Now you have some rules, you can only use existing rolling stock and motive power, no mixing of a MPC items in a postwar set. You can only use items that are relatively in the period.  Things need to flow, like a 3454 silver merchandise car would not be placed in a scout set.  If possible, build the set and post a picture.  You can use PWC CC or PW stuff but it all needs to be from the same period.  It can be as long or as short as you would like.  Or use items that were never in a set.  Where would the Monon 3494 or SOO boxcar fit in a set?  Or a double headed 520 as a postwar maintenance set?

Here are a few examples of what I am thinking. I always liked the 3469 dump cars. So how about a 2046 2046w 4 or 5 3469 dump cars and a 6457 caboose.  That one is too easy, so take an existing set like the 1523 Gandy Dancer  6250 6460 6511 6456 and 6419 and add a search light and or a 3469 dump car.   Or, build a new set, what cars would go best with the 624 C&O switcher, using the 6219 caboose?  What I think we don't need in this is taking a set like the 3 car Jersey Central FM set and adding more passenger cars, now you could if you added a 36621 milkcar as a head end car that would be what I intended.

I thought it would be somehting different to suggest, I will post some later.

If it were me I would just buy the cars I wanted for my set from the after market and run them in the order I desired.  To me that would be far easier than trying to get Lionel or MTH to appreciate my personal preferences.   Since nearly all postwar has already been re-issued, you would be talking about a re-issue of a re-issue.  Based on the pricing of PWC I have seen at York, there is a very limited appeal to the older stuff.

Currently the market seems to favor more scale sized items, exotic electronics, and more models of what is currently running on the railroad.

I have the B&M 2572 set, I already added to it, so now it has 2359 GP-9, 6448 exploding box car, 6544 missile launching car, 3519 satellite launching car, 3535 Security car,  3830 operating Submarine car, I've added 6464-475 B&M boxcar, 3419 Helicopter launching car, and 6844 Missile carrying car ( have to have extras for your missile launching car. )
