Recently picked up a new Reading And Northern Pacific. Can anyone tell me the best way to prime the whistle smoke by adding smoke fluid to the unit?

Peter - Have you read the Owner's Manual yet? It's usually spelled out clearly in there.
Good Luck!

While a good idea- no, sorry, the manual is lacking any form of instructions. Read it yourself and see.
As an example I'll throw out one of @PATSTRAINS exclusive models

Page 4 ONLY covers priming the main smoke unit- NOT the steaming whistle unit. NO, MTH never has made and likely won't make in O scale a dual function smoke unit that shares the same fluid wick cup so there to date will ALWAYS be a completely separate fill smoke unit.
And in the maintenance section, it still only covers the main smoke unit

We had 2, possibly 3 topics talking about this over the last 2 days.
#1 Yes, the instructions lack the details- however, they have been posted and discussed here in the forum. The steam dome removes and reveals the second smoke fill location.
#2 You must have DCS and a TIU with remote, or TIU with WIU and DCS app to be able to turn on the steaming whistle function. It is OFF by default. Thus, while a good idea to prime the smoke unit for use, unless you specifically enable it or can enable it, it should not be heating up by default.
#3 All of the recent Heavy Pacifics and even some other ones like P47 Southern Crescent all appear to have the same bug or flaw in the sound file. This causes a loud beep or noise to be played for several seconds as part of the PFA sequence when specifically Quilling whistle is enabled. I'm saying this both as a warning to the owners and users of the engine so you aren't surprised and then worried if you happen to invoke it, but also- putting pressure on MTH to address and fix this problem, since it's been known about since 7/28/2022- well over a month ago. At a minimum, some communication with MTH and specifically dealers would and could prevent angry folks and returns and refunds from dealers. Again, per the new system- dealers bear the brunt of this problem.
