The setup:

MTH Z-1000 brick connected to DCS TIU through  Fixed One In. Then to track from Fixed One Out. One outside rail connected to TMCC Command Base. MTH brick and Command base power supply connected to grounded surge protector. MTH brick through two prong plug.

Command Base flashes red when receiving signal from Cab One. Engine receives commands sporadically or not at all.

Changed Command Base with one that I know works. No improvement.

There is no connection to earth ground through the MTH brick or the Command Base.

What am I doing wrong?

Oh oh...so the grounded 3rd prong is vital?  I did notice that fact was underlined & bold in the TMCC manual.  Haven’t hooked mine up yet, but was hoping to use 3 prong adapter or a surge protector.  My house was built in the ‘50s, on a Friday before a holiday.  Electrical system grounds at the fuse box...Radiant heat from the ceilings (?)

Back to the drawing board I guess

Tom

Removed the surge protector. Plugged Lionel Command Base power supply into grounder outlet.

Not much improvement.

Layout is ”L” shapes switching layout. Approximately 16’ on a side. Atlas-O track. Two parallel tracks connected by 3 cross overs and 2 crossings. Six sidings all going to the outside—4 connected to the outside track and 2 connected to the inside track via the 2 crossings.

I have a large 14’ x 40’ layout with two parallel ovals and several sidings that works fine with TMCC.

This one stumps me.

Is the switching layout in the same basement with the big 14x40 layout?  Is Command Base on the big layout powered on while you are trying to use the switching layout?
