Hello, I am having the same issue in updating the MTH DCS Remote as the OP described. My TIU is a Rev L version. I just bought a used DCS remote and it does work, but it still has software version 2.10 in it. I was able to update the TIU to Version 6.10 using the Consumer Loader 5.0. When I try to update the remote following the instructions on the Consumer Loader 5.0, the remote powers on when I press and hold the power button, which it shouldn't do. It then will try and power off while I am still pressing the power button, but it stops at the screen that says "Powering Down, Saving Data..." and never fully powers down unless I release the power button. In the Consumer Loader I get stuck in the same loop as what the OP reported where the Consumer Loader says to press and hold the power button and hit OK, but then one second later it says to release the power button. It just goes in this same loop over and over because the remote powers on when it shouldn't. I have also tried two different 4 pin phone handset cords; a used one from my work last night and a brand new one I bought at Best Buy tonight. I have everything connected correctly as well. I have the USB cable connected to my computer and to the USB input on the TIU. I have the 4 pin phone handset cord connected to the Remote Input port on the TIU and connected to the port on the bottom of the remote. The TIU powers on when I connect the USB cable to it and the Consumer Loader recognizes the TIU. From what I've heard, the remote is powering up when I press and hold the power button because the TIU or the Consumer Loader is not recognizing the remote. I don't have another TIU to test and see if it is the Remote Input jack on the TIU that may be faulty, or if it is the input jack on the bottom of the remote that is faulty. All the pins on each end of the cord as well as in both jacks look good and straight. Is there a way to test to see if the Remote Input jack on the TIU is working or if the jack on the remote is working? What could be causing this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

gunrunnerjohn. My first post so my apologies. Hopefully this is more to your liking. Any ideas on what you think the issue might be?

Try just plugging the remote into the TIU and seeing if you can operate it tethered.  That will tell you if the cord is good or bad.  That's the first step as the remote update won't work if you're not getting a good connection.  I'd also do a reset of the remote before you try updating it in any case.  I know that the 2.x version of DCS requires you to reset the TIU and remote to defaults for the upgrade to 6.x.

Thank you gunrunnerjohn. I will try operating the remote while tethered tonight when I get home from work. I did reset the remote several times when trying to updated the software, but not the TIU since it is the newer L version that doesn't have 2.x in it. With that being the case, do you recommend doing a reset on the TIU anyway? Thanks.

Can't hurt to reset the TIU, though I suspect that's not your issue.

Ok thanks. I suspect the same thing. I think it's an issue with this used remote I bought. The phone cord is brand new out of the box. We'll see when I tether it to the TIU tonight. Will let you know what happens. Thanks for your help.

Hi gunrunnerjohn. Just wanted to let you know that the tether test did not work either. I then opened up the TIU to see if there was anything loose with the phone jack and everything looked good. Then I opened up the remote, and as soon as the 2 halves came apart, the entire phone cord jack fell out of the remote! Somehow all the solder connections had come undone... Anyway, I cleaned everything up, re-soldered the jack connections back onto the board, and thankfully the tether test then worked. I then performed the software update on the remote again and was able to download 6.10 into the remote. Thanks again for your help!

When instructed by the loader app to press and hold the power button down, I do so fully and firmly.  However, within less than 2 seconds the Loader app asks me to release it, then 1 second later asks me to press and hold the button.  This cycle repeats (seemingly) indefinitely.  I never get to the point of benefiting from the use of a clamp.

This is similar to what happened when trying to update my handheld...seemingly infinite numbers of cycles of re-setting...except each time the power button had to be depressed with the clamp...eventually the power button ceased to work at all.
