I've recently added a second TIU following the procedures in the DCS Companion, 3rd ed. I edited my original TIU so that it would be TIU #2, and then added the second TIU. However, both TIUs now start up as TIU #2. Both blink two times when they are turned on. I have tried deleting the second TIU and then adding it again, but it still blinks twice when it starts up.

Any suggestions on how to edit the second TIU so that it has a unique ID would be helpful. (I assume that the TIUs need a unique ID.) Does one of the TIUs have to be TIU #1?

It should be. Just power up one TIU and set it to TIU #1. You must have done something out of sync for them both to be at address#2.

If your remote or device doesn't show TIU #1 is available you'll have to delete it, and then it will be available. I fear that you may loose your engine associations and any consists may need rebuilding if they don't respond properly.

How do I reset TIU 1 so that it only blinks once? I have deleted it and then added it back, but it still blinks twice.

It is not TIU #1 inside it's memory. It's a duplicate #2. Maybe that's confusing you here?

You probably had power to both TIUs when you tried changing the address at first. Only power up the one you wish to change. If you can't get the remote to talk to it, we'll go from there.

Maybe this helps you under stand.  The Remote has to have the TIU number added, and the TIU has to have the address you want.  You have the ability to change the TIU to any address you want (1 to 5). The remote can have TIU address 1 to 5.

So as told by others power only the TIU you want to work with.  If it is address 2, address it and then change it to 4 as an example.  Power it off, wait a few seconds and power up.  TIU should blink 4 times.  It you can not change it, then the TIU may be defective.  Possibly memory chip.  G

Didn't have a phone cord and so was unable to try out the suggestions made yesterday. The physical connection was helpful in isolating problems.

I was able to change the address of the additional TIU back to 1 and it now blinks once. One helpful hint for anyone who encounters this problem in the future is to use the TIU version on the DCS menu to check on the "true" address of a TIU. My remote showed TIU 1, but when I checked the version of TIU 1, an error message came back to the effect of "TIU Failure." (Thus TIU 1 doesn't really exist.) When I checked TIU 2, the remote showed version 5. So I deleted TIU 1 and then edited the address of TIU 2 to TIU 1. (As Engineer Joe observed, there was no TIU 1 in memory.)

The other lesson as several of you pointed out is to make sure that only one TIU is powered up during this process. Otherwise you can end up with TIUs that have the same ID.

Thanks to all of you for your excellent suggestions and patience. This feels like a big hurdle overcome.
