Problem with coupler height FIXED

I don’t know much about this engine. Looking at the picture. I don’t think it has the proper coupler. Looks on the long side.

To Dave C's point, here's a pic of the factory-installed 700T tender O gauge coupler on the 6-18005 I owned.  The model also was issued with a scale coupler in the box, which by my recollection resembled the coupler in your pic.

I'll have to take a look at mine when I get home in a few days. That coupler seems too long. Almost looks like one from a passenger car. Or it may not be mounted correctly. I'd have to see a picture of the bottom. I know the coupler height is a little higher on those tenders, even for the diecast cars that were reproductions made for the 1-700e.

Sorry I missed this earlier, …..I’m with Donnie on this one, …..the coupler is indeed in the wrong place, ….the crab claw gets mounted to the truck, the scale coupler gets mounted to the body,…

Yep, that's what I was trying to remember. That the crab claw gets mounted to the truck or it sticks out too far. Sorry, my brain is in vaca mode.

Looks like a non-scale, non detailed toy box car also.

As others have mentioned, this set came with two tender couplers, one of which matches the picture.  The other is a close coupled 'scale' coupler'

Thanks for your input. Donnie and Pat, you were right:  the coupler was indeed mounted to the body of the tender. I moved it to the truck and all's right with the world.

Awesome my good sir! Enjoy that engine! That is my favorite piece I own. If you haven't already, take a look at the semi-scale (hate that term) reproductions of those cars. Goes very nicely together!

It is a great engine, Donnie. And with the coupler fixed I'm sure I'll be running it more. Since the fix I have it pulling a 21 car Pacemaker consist.  I'll look for the repro cars. I agree about semi-scale; it either is or it isn't.
