Problem with new Lionel SD40T-2 - sku 84626

Hello,

I received my new Lionel SD40T-2 and I immediately had operational problems.  I’m runing in Legacy, and when I get the locomotive moving it moves 1 to 4 feet and stops.  If I do a reset it does the same thing (whether going in forward or reverse).  Once it stops, I have to do a reset for it to move again (and then it will move only a few feet at most).  I haven’t opened it up, but everything mechanical seems normal from the outside.  Any thoughts on how to remedy?  Should I just pack it up and send it back?

thanks for any suggestions!

JohnB,

Thanks for the idea - I’ve definitely fallen into the brake slider trap before.  Unfortunately it’s not the case this time.

I ran the locomotive in conventional and LC+ mode as well with the same result.

Thanks,

Nathan

Here is what you have going on.  The flywheel with the squirrel cage on it is too far down on the sensor.  Loosen it and pull it up so you can see 1/16 inch of daylight under where it is read by the flywheel sensor.

I sent mine back to the dealer, got some store credit for some other things I wanted.  Order another one from another dealer - runs great no issues.

I didn't get an update from the original dealer as to the issue, so I can't add any knowledge to this thread.

You might try what I suggested.  I get to see a number of these.
