I have a significant problem with one of the trucks not being able to swing properly on an Atlas unpowered F7 B unit chassis. I was wondering if anyone has seen this before and what the solution might be. This may have been discussed before, but I don't recall seeing it. The only solution I can see is to remove the side steps next to the piston on the problem truck to allow the truck to swing. Any ideas on a solution would be appreciated.
As can be seen in the next two photos, one of the trucks can swing adequately, but the other is seriously inhibited, and won't operate on any reasonable radius curve.
Note that the ends of the chassis, and mounting positions of the trucks. aren't identical, but they do appear symmetrical on the bottom of the chassis with respect to their positions on the chassis, being equal distances from the ends of the chassis.
The problem is that on the truck that hardly swings, the arm on the piston (not sure if this is a brake piston or what) hits the side steps, which prevents the truck from swinging properly.
On the other truck, the piston arm slides behind the steps, which allows the truck to swing more widely.
