I just received the Lionel 6-83605 Presidents LionChief Plus Mikado yesterday.  The engine ran great, the smoke is good, but the sound volume is weak.  I can barely hear the whistle/horn, the bell, and the announcements when running in remote operational mode.  When running in transformer operational mode, the sound volume is acceptable; I would like it to be louder, like the great sound my LionChief Batman engine has, but it probably is as good as it gets.

I did follow the instructions for "Adjusting the volume using the LionChief remote" on pg. 18 of the owner's manual, to no avail.  What could I be doing wrong?  If I am not at fault, what could be the problem?  I have read other posts in this specific forum and some have suggested the connector on the drawbar, a bad speaker, and wires not connected from inside the engine to the tender.  I have thought that maybe adjusting the volume using the LionChief app--this is a Bluetooth enabled engine--would also somehow fix the problem in remote mode, but I do not own a smartphone.

Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

Hello johnf.  Holding down only the announcement button and then turning the throttle to adjust the sound volume worked...thank you so much.

Hello Davety.  The loudest setting that I am now able to get is just as great as the volume on my LionChief Batman Set, so I do not need a speaker baffle...thank you for the suggestion.

Lionel might think about sending an e-mail to their dealers with a one page addendum to the owner's manual regarding this matter and have them include the correct instructions when they sell a LionChief Plus Mikado and any other LionChief Plus engine that this applies to.

All is now right with the world, at least my little part of the world.
