Proto 2 has jerky operation with speed control on..off operation is smooth.

Conventional operation... I used two different transformers with same results...track and wheels are clean..lube is good..no binding. Ran another Proto 2 engine in the same area with no problem.

I cleaned the speed sensor..using a BCR 2... cleaned the tether end and engine socket.

I did a search and could not find any relative information that I can use. No downloading here. I am mainly a pre/post war operator.

Thanks

Since there's no issue when speed control is off, the problem is most likely a problem involving the flywheel stripes (tape or paint) or the tach itself.

Thank you for the reply Barry.

I will inspect the stripes more closely to see if they are ok.  I had cleaned the tach sensor with a bit of alcohol dampened heavy paper towel. I may adjust the distance between the sensor and the flywheel as a last resort.

Success!!  Success!!  I installed a clear plastic shim under the tach sensor support bracket (see photo)IMG_2100...this forces the sensor closer to the flywheel. Running like new!!  I feel great about this as I generally don't venture into hi tech repair territory. I was getting close to gutting it and hot wire with a rectifier. Thank you Barry for your input.
