I am having a problem with my fast track switcher in that when a train gets to it the power on the track cuts out and the train stops.  If I push the engine back and forth over it the power comes on quick then cuts out. I'm not sure if it's a short. I really don't know about wiring. I had my layout wired and the guy who did it moved away. Any advice would surely be appreciated.

I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like you either have a loose connection issue where the switch is not getting good voltage or a short condition, where potentially the wheels of the train are shorting out on the switch.

I would first disconnect the switch from the layout and adjust the pins at both ends of the FT switch and the adjacent track to make sure they are making good contact; then re-connect and measure voltage with a meter at the switch; and see if that helps. There are a few threads here and on the internet that detail how to adjust FT to insure good contact.
