About a year ago an old friend was cleaning out his garage and found his old train set. It was Promotional Set X-574NA from 1960. He gave it to me. (a really great gesture!).

The set was sold at Abraham & Strauss in New York City. I have the box with the price tag of 19.99. Not all the components are there.

It is missing the cardboard trestle bents and the 981 Freight Yard set. All in all, a great and wonderful present.

Here are a few pics:

Take a close look at the giraffe car.  In many cases the car used in promo sets was 3386, not 3376.  Also check for fixed couplers.  This car was uncataloged.

And you all thought I only do electronics.

I think that blue flatcar with the rectangular opening is a 6413 Mercury Capsule car, missing the brackets and capsules, etc. If so, the blue seems darker than the ones I've seen. Maybe you have an unusual variation!  6413

Repro loads/brackets for the 6413 are available again.

It's also nice to see the missile launching boxcar with the ends of the catwalk intact. are the hinges good on yours?
