While conventionally operating an MTH PS1 locomotive steam sounds are fine in neutral but when the engine moves the steam sound cuts out. If I move the engine to a TIU variable track and operate through my DCS remote the engine sounds work perfectly. Both tracks are powered by 2 different Z4000s. Any ideas? Thank you.

We know Proto-1'swere designed to run on a pure sine wave type transformers such as our old Lionels ones. In theory the engine should run better with the Z-4000 rather than the Var channel. (most do)
Thinking ... is this a track problem or Z-4000 problem? I suppose there's only one way to find out... switch out the track( Var channel) or transformer?
First, make sure the battery is good. 2nd, do a feature 18 reset pushing the button twice (This resets chuff rate.).
