Although I have not do the search myself, I would think that Google would have LOTS of information about PRR electric locomotives and their quill drive design.

EDIT,

I just Googled "Quill Drive", and there is a tone of information, especially on the PDD GG1.

The quill is a hollow tube that surrounds each drive axle of the motor trucks. it is driven, in the case of PRR electrics, by two traction motors through a common pinion gear. There are spring cups on the outer edge of the quill which transmit its force to the spokes of the driving wheels.
